WAKE UP N.Z.!

V.C.'s GALL TO ARMS SERGEANT HULME'S LETTER Sergeant Clive Hulme, whose V.C. citation so thrilled New Zealanders last year has sent a rousing- message to the people of thisi country and his letter to the press will find enthusiastic approval Avherever it is read. We repeat it herewith:— Sir, —Congratulations to Lieuten-ant-Colonel Hen-old, a lighting soldier of the okl brigade, in whose hands we of the new placcd onr faith, the safety of the women and children and I lie defence of onr little country. I hope his call will be echoed and re-echoed throughout the length and breadth of New Zealand. Where is our R.S.A. —that gallant body of warriors whose name 25 years ago struck terror into the hearts of the enemy? Where are the leaders —the men who in this day of the country's emergency should be. in key positions, fighting grimly determined in an all-out effort to save New Zealand and those who belong to her? Men from the dust of Egypt and the mud of Flanders—have thej' - not earned the right to guide us through our baptism of fire? Whore is our R.S.A.? To you. our women and children, make their mute appeal. Now is the time to act—strike at the enemy within our own gates, withstand opposition boldly, tolerate no strikers, no defaulters, no half-hearted weekend war effort: organise yourselves and lead this country. Remember how you went over the top to teach ".Terry" his lesson; tighten your belts and let nothing deter you. Your ultimate destiny is to guide the country safely through this conflict. It is a clarion call to> men of spirit; take up the challenge and fight. Yours etc., CLIVE HULME. -1/3/42.
