RUATOKI FARMERS AND RATES COUNTY COUNCIL'S PROBLEM At this week's meeting of the County Council a letter was received from Mr James Merritt, of the Native Department, Ruatoki, returning rate demands forwarded to his" office for distribution to the farmers of Ruatoki. The writer advised that in all cases where he had notified persons of the demands being in the office for their acceptance, they have refused to take delivery, and it was understood that these farmers have information from other sources advising them that they are not liable for rates. It was recommended that Hon. Minister Native Affairs be advised of the facts.
