FOUR MONTHS' KILLINGS

The official figures of killings for the present season at the Dominion's Freezing Works from Ist October till January 31st, as issued by the New Zealand Meat Producers Board, show that lamb killings to that date total 5,072,314 carcases, this being an increase of 200,579 carcases over the killings to February Ist last season. Wether mutton killings are 233,403 carcases, and ewe mutton killings 258,365 carcases compared with 111,633 and 2*36,713 carcases respectively last season. Details of the lamb and mutton killings in the North and the South Islands, with ligures for the previous season in parentheses arc as follows: North Island Lamb 3,251,598 (3,222,307) Wether mutton 221,101 ( 102,843) Ewe mutton 179,608 ( 191,035) South. Island Lamb 1,820,716 (1,643,428) Wether mutton 12,302 ( 8,790) Ewe mutton 78,757 ( 45,678) Frozen beef production is now 71,666 quarters compared with 102,323 quarters last seasonPorker killings total 49,717 carcases, an increase of 29,992 whilst baconers total 146,477 carcases, a decrease of 31,970.
