THE Governor-General has expressed a desire to see the Scout strength of this country built from 16,000 to 50,000. From figures obtainable this could be achieved if all available boys were to join the movement. The approaching week-end will be dedicated by the local troop towards making a local contribution to this end. All boys who desire to become good and useful citizens, to learn First Aid, signalling, camping, scouting and a hundred and one other things should make a point of joining the Wha,katane troop. For lads of younger age, the Cub Pack is also open for membership. The same arguments apply to the newly formed Guide troop. Here is the chance and the opportunity to be of national service.

ment with the states without the voice of the people. Personally J have no quarrel with the American people, but they are under the whip of the Federal banking system, more so than Ave are at the present time. We can welcome them to our shores as brothers-in-arms but we don't want to be governed by them after the war. If we do not demand an explanation now, as to the present and future state of the Dominion's right to govern its policy of self-deter-mination, it may be too late after the war. If you demand political freedom, a freedom from outside monetary control and your sovereign rights, you are not only fighting for your own freedom but the freedom of the British Commonwealth as well. There are those who are the enemy within the gates of the British Commonwealth of Nations that would sell us for gold. It was Montague Norman who forced the British nation back on to gold and caused all the suffering and distress in 1925. Surely New Zealanders will assert their British rights even now at the "Eleventh" hour and take action to bring their representatives under their direct control. Yours etc., W. BRADSHAW.
