The Editor reserves the ught to abridge, amend or withhold any letter of" letters. Si r? —Just a suggestion to the people that are looking after our streets in the event of an air raid. E SugH gest to them that they drive a tunnel into Hillcrest. The tunnel to start at the top of George Street. That the tunnel be an incline tunnel on an easy grade to come out that gully on Hillcrest then people working in the town could be 100 per cent safe in one minute and the Hillcrest people could get shelter in the Hillcrest end. Now as the Government is offering a subsidy it would not cost much to put a travelling way through to Hillcrest. The spoil couldjy. be used to fill in the mudflats and itr ■ would be a home to lunch short cut for the dwellers on the; hill. And a thousand homes could be built in the valley within ten minutes of the Strand. I want to point out also to the people living up Hillcrest way that they will have to walk to town soon as it will be a long time before cars are made in any country, and walking round that winding road in face of a howling easterly gale will not be pleasant by any means. So why not a tunnel its usefulness is outstanding. Yours etc., OSWALD PARK, Consulting Mining Expert.
