HEADS PARK

SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS

SOME DIFFICULTY ENCOUNTERED Recently the Borough Council inspected the approaches to the Heads with a view to con- | sidering the construction of a footpath. However, the Mayor reported at Monday's meeting that the result of the move had 1 not been very satisfactory as it was found that sections bordered the road and no space was available for the footway. Cr C. S. Arm,strong asked if it would be possible to give the road a light coating of tar, pointing out that the foundations were good and the'task would not be a big one. It Avas stated that such a move was at present undbr the consideration of the Works Commitec. Swimming Pool His Worship the Mayor stated that in the course of an inspection he had formed the opinion that with little expense involved the swimming pool could be greatly improved. Over a period of years this pool had. silted ufi and a few hours work with .a dredge or scoop would provide a depth to allow bathing at any stage of the tide. That more children than adults used the pool was pointed out by Cr C. S. Armstrong'who added that it would be necessary to take care that n depth which would be dangerous was not made. At present stronger swimmers could swim in the river beyond the groyne. Cr J. Creeke favoured the scooping of the pool stating that at low tide the depth was insufficient for swimming. There could still lie left plenty of space for children of all ages. Cr A. .T. Canning expressed the opinion that "work of a more l permanent nature would be required, but the Mayor pointed out that the. pool had taken many years to silt up as it had done, wiiilc Cr Creckc stated that to seal the groyne with concrete would be ineffective as heavy seas went over the top. He added, that the work of a scoop would provide a pool for many years. It Avas decided on the motion of His Worship that the Works Committee take action in the. matter. "Wc will get right on with the job." he said.
