REDUCED LIGHTING REGULATIONS

WHAKATANE BOROUGH'S ACTION

In a circular sent to all householders within the Borough, Mr B. S. Barry, chief warden of the Whakatane Borough Emergency Precautions Scheme Organisation istsues a final warning in connection with the reduced 1 lighting required and prepares residents for ia/ trial blackout to be held shortly. The handbill reads as follows: —■ The local requirements respecting reduced lighting and the blackout are again brought to your notice. They require immediate attention. I—Skylightsl—Skylights and Fanlights must he totally blacked out. 2—Shop and Window Lights of Business Premises must not shine beyond the kerb line. 3 —All windows facing the sea must be totally blacked out. 4 —Doors facing the sea must be kept closed to prevent the emission of light. s—All windows which are not facing the sea must be effectively shaded by blinds or alternative materials. . 6—All verandah or outside lights must be removed or effectively shrouded. 7 —All premises must be provided with, one room completely blacked out, and this room only is to be used during ,an emergency trial or an actual emergency. B—No8 —No vehicle is to be left standing with any light showing which is directly visible from the sea. 9—During an emergency, or an emergency trial, all vehicle lights are to be immediately extinguished, vehicles to be parked off roadway and out of way of traffic. The Lighting Wardens have patrolled all sections of the Borough, have advised occupicrs respecting requirements and have issued warnings in some cases. It is not possible to issue further warnings, the duties and responsibilities being now clearly defined and understood. A. trial blackout will shortly be held, the date to be advertised, when the regulations will he rigidly en-, forced.
