WHAKATANE MEETING • The February meeting was held in the Parish Hall on February 3, with the vice-president, Mrs N. Matthews, in the chair. The meeting opened with the singing of "Comrades and Friends." , Before the business was commenced members 1 stood in silence as a mark of sympathy to those members who had lost relatives in the war; It was decided to ask Miiss CoxJohnston, gardening expert, to visit Whakatane again for a series of lectures. The Institute picnic is to be "abandoned for this year, owing to transport difficulties. Nominations, were then received for members of committee, to be brought forward at the annual meeting in March. It was announced that the Gardening Circle would not be meeting this month. Gardening hints, in the form of a. Roll Call, brought useful hints and many fines. ' Demonstration—Mrs Rycle's demonstration of netting and the making of camouflage nets was watched with interest by members who intend to assist in this work . Red Cross Shop—Friday next is Institute Day at the local shop and members were asked to support this effort as well as they possibly could. Competitions resulted as follows: Wall competition; Mrs Miller; Vegetables, Mrs Larsen; Bottled Fruit," Mrs Wheeler. ' The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
