FASTEST IN N.S.W.
NEW BEAUFORT BOMBER . SUCCESS ON TRIAL FLIGHT Completed to schedule, the first Bristol Beaufort torpedo-bomber assembled in Sydney was proved on its trial flight the fastest aeroplane ever built in New South Wales. The cognificance of the trial was that it marked the coming into production of the second Bristol Beaufort assembly plant in Australia. The other, in Melbourne, produced its first in April. Several machines assembled at the Melbourne factory are now in the air, and others are in advanced stages of assembly. To complete the first Sydney-as-sembled Beaufort on the allotted schedule day is a compliment to the production staff. On July 1 the assembly shop was a great empty shell. During the intervening 3% months assembly jigs were fitted up, sub-assemblies delivered and pieced together, and 50 workmen were sent to Melbourne to gain first-hand experience in assembling a complete machine.
