ALARM SYSTEM

TRIALS YESTERDAY POWER FAILURE EMERGENCY The Borough Emergency Precautions Scheme Organisation has decided, as circularised, that in the event of an emergency the residents of the borough will be warned :by signals on the fire sirens. In tbe event of the power failing the residential area would be warned by the tolling of the church bells, while a signal for the business area is to, be arranged for use in that event. Yesterday members of the organisation were experimenting with alternative alarms and the town was livened by the sound of motor horns blaring forth at the fire station. These were of different tones and * for some time could be heard emitting a variety of sounds as the men endeavoured to> tone them to a note Lhat would arouse the business area promptly. As yet no decision as to the alternative alarm has been reached.
