MAINTENANCE COSTS HIGH

COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE s

Introduced by A* D. "VV. Spence a discussion took place l at this week's meeting or the County Council regarding the maintenance costs of the council's traction shovels:. Cn Spence considered the repair costs and loss of working days too high.. It was stated by the engineer that the costs had been higher than estimated and breakdowns more frequent than expected as usual but he, not having .fully investigated the matter, was not prepared to attribute the position to> any particular reason.; It was decided that a committee comprising the chairman, Crs D. W. Spence, W. A. McCrack'en and the engineer make a full investigation. The clerk pointed out during the discussion that the council had no separate fund for plant replacements and suggested . that such a fund should be instituted, and it was decided that the committee include this matter in its investigations.
