CLOSING OF SHOPS
LATE NIGHT REGULATION
At this week's meeting of the County Council the County ClerlFc reported that a copy of the regula r tions in regard to closing of shops, late night, had been received. Such regulations provide that having regard to the exigencies of the present war, the Minister may authorise or direct any local authority*.!® fix, in respect of the late night ol>served by shops, an earlier cjmi| ~ time than the closing time accordance with the Shops and Offices Act. The chairman, if it is not in "his opinion practicable or convenient to summons a meeting of the council for the purpose of passing any necessary resolution, may take any necessary action, such' action to be submitted for confirmation to the local authority at its next ordinary meeting. The local authority may authorise the occupier of any shop to keep his shop open and employ assistants on any other day or days in the week after the ordinary closing time, provided longer weekly hours are; not worked, and if assistants are obliged to work after 6 p.m. overtime be paid.
