Nominations for the Hauraki seat, vacant owing to the death on active service of Lieutenant-Colonel J. M. Allen,, closed on Wednesday, the nominees being Mir Henry Thomas Head, of .Parnell, who stood for the Waitemata seat, and Mr Andrew Sinclair Sutherland, of Ngaruawahia, the National Party candidate. Voting will take place on February 7. When nominations for the Temuka seat, rendered vacant by the death of Mr T. D. Burnett, closed there were two candidates, Mr J.. Acland (National Party) ; and Mr D. C. Davie (Independent). The byelection will be held on February 7. The National Party candidate, Mrs A. N. Grigg, was the only nomination for the Mid-Canterbury seat rendered vacant by the death of Major A. N. Grigg in action in the Middle East.
