Dear Sir

Letters to the Editor must be clearly written on one side of the paper only and where a nom-de-plume is used the name of the writer must be included for reference purposes. The Editor reserves the ughl to abridge* amend or withhold any letter or letters. PETROL GROUCH Sir, —May I have a little of your space to present my petrol grouch? I have no doubt most of us have one and I think I will feel better, perhaps, if I can air mine. The controller has not seen fit to grant us any petrol. Ai short time ago I had business to transact in Whakatane and set out to cycle, a matter of about 13 miles. It was; a pretty stout effort as I am not as young as I was and of the female A persuasion. The going was fine, but ! the comftig back —well, it was not so good. Several evenings later 1 went to. the pictures at Edgecumbe about three miles away, still on the old "grid" and what a sight met my eyes upon arrival. The street outside the theatre lined with motor cars of all descriptions. Mr Editor can you or any of your readers honestly tell me that there is anything fair or just in a system which makes me put away my car and allow others to go to the pictures in theirs. Perhaps I should be "big" enough not to mind but I am not. I resents the injustice bitterly. I would not mind biking everywhere I had to go and in fact would be pleased to think it was part of my war effort, if others had to do likewise but please you powers who be treat us all alike. Yours etc., NO PICTURE PETROL*
