Mutual Help in Wairoa

Hard at work on the footpath of Grey Street, Wairoa, the other day, a resident who is handier Avith the driving wheel of a car than a sythe was cutting long swathes of grass. A friend asked him if he had taken oil a new job. He replied that as his neighbour had gone into camp to train men for the defence of New Zealand, he felt that it was up to him to help in what the occupier of the premises would do were lie at home. This resident cleared frvc chains of frontage and the ditch, leaving everything ready for burning.
