POPULAR RESORT

IMPROVEMENTS SOUGHT FOR HEADS

RESTRICTIONS INCREASE POPULARITY

There were over two hundred and fifty people at the Head's on a recent Sunday (according to Cr J. Creeke when at this month's meeting of the Borough Council he appealed for improvements to the approach to that resort. He pointed out thait a greatly increased number of people were spending their leisure time at the Heads since the Jack of petrol did not permit travelling to other beauty spots.

Cr Creeke appealed to the council to review the position and provide some improvement to the approaches even' if only of a temporary nature. He stated that the road was: very rough and unpleasant for use particularly for women with prams. "The grader often makes the road worse too," he said, "and the going Is very hard. A footpath is de(in iteiv necessary."

He continued that a path could be provided at very little cost and this should be made as at present with speeding motorists there was considerable danger to pedestrians.''Our first consideration is the safety of pedestrians and it is up to the council to do something about it. The Heads is now the only pleasure resort in Whakatanc —if yen want fresh air then go to the Heads."

Cr Canning remarked that the council was always sympathetic to the needs of that area but lack of (inance had prevented work being done.

Cr C. S. Armstrong supported Cr Creeke and pointed out that the Finance Committee had more funds that at first it thought would be available. "I suggest that the Works Committee review the matter —and this time that they walk down and not take their cars."

The chairman, the deputy-Mayor, pointed out that many people had been paving rates in the town for 20 years and still had no footpath. He agreed that improvements were needed at the- Heads but was doubtful as to which area in the Borough should receive first consideration.

It was decided that the suggested work be considered.
