Tank Water Getting', Low Householders in Whakatane district who depend on rainwater from their roofs, arc again lamenting the lack of heavy rain and counting the days that their tank water will last them. Some country house-holders have emptied their tanks and have to cart water from other sources of supply. Light Hay Crops Many farmers on the Rangitaiki j Plains consider that their hay crops have been much lighter than usual because of the dry weather experienced since October. For that reason tt is probable that hay will be scarce at the end' of the coming winter, and that stocks left over from last' season will be a valuable asset to farmers. Rain Needed I Unless heavy rain falls before the oml of January there is certain to be a steep decline in dairy production In the Bay of Plenty. Many farmers are now complaining oif shortage of feed —or rather of the absence of the usual superabundance of feed which has always been a happy feature of dairying in the Bay. In most years there has been a good deal of rain in January, but so far the weather has been good for haymaking, but bad for the pastures.
