A 12 year old Opotiki schoolboy tlecidcd lie would . like to cycle through to Gisborne and was granted permission although it was recognised that the undertaking was rather a strenuous one. on the Gisborne side ay ere very wet ami sloppy and a good deal of sticky clay had to be negotiated on the Otoko Hill. The trip Avas again made in one day, only light rain falling in the latter stages down the Waioeka gorge. Soon after his arrival home the boy confided to his lather that he would Avait till he Avas a feAV years older before undertaking such a long ride again in one day. No punctures or spills Avere experienced for the double journey. The hardest parts of the trip Avere considered to be the long Avalks up Trafford's hill and the Otoko hill, especially the latter hill Avhen Avhen it Avas mud-covered and the climb was made under a blazing sun.
