Future Mothers
Urging the older girls to go on learning and toi make their homes happier by their tactfulness, Lady Newall said, when speaking at the Craighead Diocesan School's end-of-year function, that happy Christian homes were the strength of the nation. As future mothers they should see that their homes were made large enough to provide for a family of at least five children (Laughter). Continuing, Her Excellency said that sometimes it was said that slang was a besetting sin of schoolgirls, and she read an amusing sketch of a conversation between an air force recruit and an officer. In order to show how familiar he was with the service the rccruit used all the air force slang possible to introduce into the conversation, only to be told by the officer thai clarity and conciseness wpre among the first essentials. It was important to speak good English as much of time as they could.
