TRADE WITH THE EAST
POSSIBILITIES INVESTIGATED
Fresh from their recent visit to the Netherlands East Indies, Captain Rushworth and Mr A. E. Robinson, President and Secretary respectively of the Auckland Farmers' Union, were in attendance 1 at last Executive meeting. They presented a voluminous and comprehensive report dealing with the possibilities of trade with the Dutch East Indies, Malaya and other parts of the Middle East, but in view of the fact that the Dominion Executive had been associated with the Auckland branch in arranging the tour it was considered that the report should be treated as confidential until it had been released in Wellington. In a brief discussion by the Auckland Executive members were greatly impressed by the value of thP report and by the urgent responsibility upon the Government to give effect to the recommendations embodied therein. It was decided, therefore, to request the Dominion Executive to give a formal release forthwith, so that a copy of the report could be handed to the Government, and that Captain Rushworth and Mr Robinson should proceed to Wellington and personally back up the report, stressing the need for urgent action.
