A CALL TO NATIONAL PRAYER
FOR the first time in history, the two great English-speak-ing peopled of the world will join in common prayer for the one great objective —peace. At the call of the English Prime Minister and of the American President, two hundred millions will be invited to prayer on New Year's Day (to-morrow) . Harsh realities have brought home to both countries the nearness of the danger, the threat to the peoples of the Pacific countries, and the growing menace of a power which has been hatched out of treachery and persecution. Ever in his hour of trouble; has mankind turned to his Maker and his God. Thus wrote the psalmist of the Old Testament, and. thus to-day speak the greatest leaders of Democracy. Quiet prayerful contemplation are considered part of the National effort—a patriotism to the Divine Creator, which after all is the highest form of service to ones fellow-men.
