PREPARED FOR EMERGENCY

COUNTY E.P.S. MEETS

About fifty members of the: Whakatane County Emergency Precautions Organisation met on Monday to reveal that preparations are well forward to combat any emergency. Depots for bulk supplies: of medical needs have been established at suitable locations. These supplies are being stored in the selected locations for use by the hospital authorities if the main hospital supplies in Whakatane should be destroyed. In the event of an emergency in a rural area then the superintendent, Dr E. T. Dawson, would authorise use away from the hospital . An emergency maternity home is also provided for. Supplies of flour already stored were allocated to various districts to be transported in the event of an emergency. Transport was arranged for immediate action. Aid posts have been arranged with staff and equipment to cope with possible civilian casualties as well asi co-ordinating with the' Home Guard, should it be operating in the forward defence area. Home Guard casualties would become the charge of the E.P.S. when leaving field dressing stations. Blackout Regulations Blackout requirements were announced, and traffic control was explained to be under the Transport
