RACING NOTES
DISTANCE INCREASED
The distance of the next Wellington Cup has been increased to two miles and a question has been raised as to where the race will be started lrom;, the 6 furlong barrier on the straight course or the six furlong post on the round course. Lf the race starts up the lane on the straight course it will not be quite the spectacle for the public, that it would be if started at the old six. However there is a barrier at the last named post. AT LONG LAST Yogi's victory in the Gothard Handicap at Woodville was long overdue, but there may have been merit in the win as the northern handicapper has increased his weight for the Auckland Cup from 7.8 to 7.10. Just about a year ago there was an inquiry frem overseas for the Beau Pere representative, and his owner Mr Frank-Qrmond then said: "10,000 guineas would not buy him." For some time afterwards Yogi was under a cloud, and it was then feared he might never live up to his reputation. The Woodville success has at least partially redeemed him in the minds of early ad m i rers.
