And now they are into the Whakatane County straight with Sawdust Bill 84 votes in the lead as they pass Waimana. Nothing can catch him. Doughboy Charlie is not in the same class at this end of the journey. Sawdust Bill is going well at Taneatua, with Doughboy Charlie 141 votes further back.

The crowd is on its toes. Will Doughboy Charlie make his rim at Awakeri? No he is badly beaten and appears to have no sprint left in him as they career across the Plains.
