REPLY TO' CRITICISM
"The remarks were made by people who do not know what they .are talking about," said His Worship the Mayor on Mond'ay night when statements made by members of the Harbour Board were discussed. These 1 remarks were in connection with the conveniences in the town when Messrs J. A. Mitchell and C Tickner criticised the lack of supervision exercised. The Borough foreman-engineer, Mr W. S. Henderson, reported that the conveniences Avcre hosed, swept and disinfected every morning seven days a Aveek. This Avorlc Avas done At time and a half rates on Avcck daj-s and double time on Sundays. Be added that there could be no question of lack of attention as the time sheets Avould slioav.
Ila reply to< the Miayor Mr Henderson stated that he had had occasion to consult the policc regarding damage done to locks.
That to give improved supervision would mean the employment of a permanent attendant was stated by C'r S. S. Shaplcy, and the Council could not afford such a measure.
"That is so," said His Worship, "we have done all that is possible without employing a permanent cm-
ployee."
