POPULAR CONCERT

BOYS' . BAND ENTERTAINS

KING STREET HALL CROWDED

The initial concert presented by

the Whakatane Boys' Band held on Thursday night attracted a large attendance, the King Street Hall being crowded. Having heard the boys on several occasions before, no doubt all expected to be well entertained, but it can be safely stated that not" one of the audience anticipated such a brilliant performance.

The highly diversified programme was presented in professional manner the items, all of which were rendered by the hoys, being staged in quick succession leaving not a dull moment. For the splendid stage management Mr Harry Tennant was responsible* his arrangement of the programme earning well merited praise. The standard of the boys music and their general deportment spoke highly for the training given by the bandmaster, Mr H. Mayo, and the assistance given of Miss Galloway in elocutionary training was evident. It would be difficult indeed to single out any item for special praise so well did each performer do his part, but thanks were due the troupes from Poroporo and Ruatoki who journeyed to Whakatane to give their assistance. The programme was as follows: — March In; Piper: V. Walton; OverI ture, The Band; Lights of London, George Patterson; Haka, Poroporo Troupe; Mouth Organists; Lightning Sketch Artist, K. Warner; Duct, Skelton Bros; "Boots and Saddle," School Troupe; "Maori Battalion."
