NEW YEAR CARNIVAL
CHILDREN f3 SECTION PLANNED
MODIFIED EVENING'S PiiO-
GRAMME
The big handicap imposed by the 'blackout' has not deterred the Carnival Committee to the extent of putting' the carnival off, and as previously stated efforts will be made this year to hold the event oil a modified scale in the evening but to maintain the children's or afternoon programme on more or less the same lines. Arrangements have been made for the Boas' Band to lead the children's parade at 2 p.m. sharp, the marshalling to commence half an hour earlier. The children, with their decorated vehicles and prams will proceed to the square Avhere the judging will take place and where a short programme of items by juvenile troupes will be given from a platform. Free, ice cream tickets will again be distributed. In the evening both bands will be asked to ajssist, the pipers it is hoped carrying the bulk of the programme by way of enlivening the proceedings in the same manner as they did previously. Efforts will also be made to arrange for individual groups of entertainers. The dance .will also take place and the welcoming in of the New Year will be the feature at midnight. The Spotting Competition will also be held this matter being put in hand at once. Businessmen are asked to lend their co-operation in this connection by assisting the committee's representatives to compile their lists with the minimum of delay.
