HARBOUR BOARD VACANCY

SUCCESSOR TO LATE J. W

SUMNER

At Friday's meeting of the Whakatane Harbour Board Mr W. R. Boon was elected to the position of chairman to succeed the late Mr J. W. Sumner. The secretary (Mr C. G. Lucas) explained that the appointment would be until May 1942. In thanking members for his election Mr Boon stated he would do his best for the Board, although lie could not undertake to spend such a great deal of time on its affairs as given by the late Mr Sumner. New Member The Count}" Clerk in a letter advised that, under the provisions of the "Harbours Act 192.'?," Mr Wm. Hunter, of Edgecumbe,, had been appointed a member of the Board. Mr Hunter was present and was welcomed by the new chairman, and .suitably replied.
