MAIZE SURPLUS
MINISTER'S ASSURANCE WILL BE MARKETED In an interview yesterday, the Minister of Marketing (Hon. J. G. Barclay) said he had found) that quite a number of maize growers were concerned to the position in regard to the lifting of last season's crop. "I can assure growers," said the Minister, "that if ait the end! of the season there is a surplus which; cannot be marketed by merchants through usual channels, the Government will imr piemen t their undertaking to take over any such surplus at the fixed price. That position, however, may not arise, but will be met as the occasion may require."* The Minister also stated 1 that, as there wouild be none of the present growing season's maize available until June next, the stocks from last season would) have to serve all requirements until the new crop came in, and! to induce growers to hold their crops for spread delivery, the price has been increased for the later months. He understood that it was quite a usual practice for some growers to hold! their maize in criibs until towards the end of the esason..
