On Thursday afternoon the Eastern Bay of Plenty Young Farmers' Club District Committee met, with Mr W. A. McCracken, advisory president for Edgecumbe in the chair. Mr N. J. C. McDonald, advisory president of the Waimana Club was also present. Speaking at this meeting, Mr Freeman explained that in reference to the Roll of Honour only the name of the service was required for members to be included, on the roll in addition to their own title. Clubs were compiling lists and these would be published in the Journal of Agriculture and added to from time to time. The Roll would first appear In the December issue. Ergot Campaign I'n connection with the collection of ergot campaign it was decided that the club secretaries co-operatc with the district secretary with a view to obtaining a rough survey of the district locations of tall fescue and marram grass so as to have this information at hand to supply when enquiries were received regarding ergot collection. In the Journal of Agriculture of November, it was stated, an article appeared giving a description of the method of erg,ot collection and how to deal with it. Clubs in Recess Referring to clubs in recess for the war years Mr McDonald suggested that senior members of clubs, operating" should visit other localities; give lectures, and assist generallj? with a view to reviving clubs. He said that he favoured an endeavour to revive the Opotiki Club. A suggestion was made by Mr Ross that eiforts be made to initiate a club comprising agricultural pupils Studying at the Wliakatane District High School. Winter Show Competitions held at the Bay o>f Rlenty Winter Show held at Wliakatane were discussed and it was decided that contests of photography and maize growing be added to the Y.F.C. section for members of the Eastern Bay of Plenty and Rotorua areas. Essay Competition Mr Ross stressed the value of the movement impressing members with the urgent necessity to keep the clubs alive and of holding regular meetings. Those members attending should encourage younger members between the ages of 14 and 18 years to join. It was, apart from the agricultural objects of the clubs, the aim of all associated to assist Patriotic efforts as much as possible. He added that a most important factor was that an active district committee should meet at intervals not j greater than three months. Continuing Mr Ross said it had recently been suggested to the Auckland® Council that essay contests be held in clubs, with members encouraged to write on agricultural subjects and the efforts to be read and judged at meetings. The idea was to stimulate the latent ability of young farmers to record their thoughts in writing and induce them to enter for the Y.F'.C. essay competition. At the conclusion of the meeting appreciation of the visit of Messrs Ross and Freeman was expressed. Agricultural Films At Waimana on Wednesdaj r night and Edgecumbe on Thursday evening members were treated to short addresses and sound films of agricultural value, by the secretary, Mr Freeman.
