SCHOOLBOY WORKERS

♦ — ' ' ENDEAVOUR TO ME&T i Lv& labour problem ". USE FOR HARVESTING AND- I FARM WORK" ' "In an: endeavofur to as ■ far as possible the problem of i labour for harvesting and farm; ; work generally, it is again intended to make tjrve fullest \ sible use of school youithls of 15 years of age or over, who are willing to offer their services during the Christmas vacation," stated the Placement Officer for the Bay of Plenty (Rotorua District) Mr J. McGlone, in an interview with the Beacon on Friday. A similar scheme last year met with a fair measure of success, he said, and given the co-operation of parents, teachers and farmers, it should be possible to obtain even better results this year. The maintenance of primary production at the highest possible level is of tremendous importance and assistance given in this direction can be considered a valuable contribution to the Dominion's Avar effort. It is to be hoped that the lads will receive every encouragement to assist in this way and besides rendering a service to the country the boys will be able to turn their holidays to profitable account for tliem>selves. Boys accepting will receive at least the Award wages and will have their fare paid both to and from the farm. Every care will be taken to ensure that the lads go to good homes. Arrangements are being made to acquaint the boys with full details of the scheme through their schools. Parents desiring -further information are invited to get in touch with I their local Placement or Social Security Office. Farmers who are desirous of obtaining the servicesvof school youth are requested to 'communicate with the Placement Officer without delay. This may be done at the Whakatane office where j\lr Noble is in charge of the Placement Office, his telephone number being 215.
