GERMAN PEACE MOVES
EFFORV IN 1918 RECALLED
PLANES DROP LEAFLETS
In view of Germany's move for peape, which is claimed will follow a satisfactory result to that nation of the conflict with Russia, we were Interested yesterday to have the opportunity of reading a leaflet inviting peace which Avas dropped byf German 'planes on November i, 1918, ten days before the actual Armis* tice. Leaflets were, according to our informant, dropped in tens af thousands over the British and Frencbi trendies, one side being printed in English and the other in French giving the same message. This was the first move by the new German Democratic Government which was elected following the abdication and flight of the Kaiser. "The leaflet read as follows:— "The German people want quickly to end the slaughter and have approached President Wilson to mal<et a general and lasting peace amongst all tfie nations. The German nation' Is willing to withdraw immediately from Belgium and France, to re-» strict U-boat Avarfare against merchant shipping and to negotiate upon honourable terms the fate of Alsace-Lorraine. Peace is our sole aim. Who is to blame if an Armistice is not called now. The German people offer to the soldiers of England and France their land for a lasting peace."
