BAY OF PLENTY BY ELECTION

WITH three weeks only in which to stage an election campaign, it is interesting to note the public re-action to activities of both parties ancl the speculation as to the outcome., Alre&dy the fixing of polling booths throughout the electorate is proceeding. Details of the printing of the roll and the ballot papers are in train. All that remains now is for the candidates to commence the usual series of addresses and the Party Committees to get busy with propaganda and arguments. From a broad point of view it would, be correct to state that the campaign will scarcely be productive of that intense partyism' which is associated with a Genera] Election. Rather it can be expected to take a much mildel form, by which electors will not seek to introduce the same high pitch of feeling or animosity. There are much bigger issues before the nation. and the world. Electors can therefore afford to see that the campaign is carried out in a quiet and dignified manner befitting the way in which the seat became vacant and also the times in.which we live.
