It Costs More to Live The cost of living continues to rise slowly but surely. In the latest Abstract of Statistics retail prices in all groups, calculated from August last, are shown to have advanced 4 per cent over the July figures, the advance being 7.8 per cent over the index figures for August, 1939. Compared with prices ruling in 1914, the advance has been 70.9 per cent. In any one group the biggest individual increase has been in clothing, drapery and foqtwear. Wellington still holds the doubtful distinction of being the most expensive of the four main centres in which to live.
