CHAMPION BULL

TASMANIAN ROYAL SHOW

NEW ZEALAND WINNER

At the Tasmanian Royal Show last month, the Royal Championship in the Ayrshire section was won by the three year old New Zealand bred bull, Ardgowan High Caste, bred by Mr J. G. Donald, of T'auhereniku. High Caste, Avho is by the great breeding bull, Netherton Miahmoud (imp), is described as a most impressive animal in which size, refinement, breed character and dairy qualities are combined. He was selected for his present owners as a yearling by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. Lid's Stud Stock Department. Other notable successes were credited to the Ardgowan Stud last week: at the Waikato Show, where the North Island Championships were decided. The competition, which was of a record nature and totalled over one hundred head, was almost international in character as. cattle bred in Canada and Tasmania competed against New Zealand stock. The Championship and Reserve in males and the Championships in females were all Avon byanimals bred in the Ardgowan herd, a very notable achievement. The two. championships were awarded respectively to Mr P. Beverley's Ardgowan Mysore, a two year old bull by Netherton Mahmoud, and Ardgowan Fragrant Star, a six year old cow bj r Thorncroft Star Boy, a calf from the latter cow and sired by Netherton Mahmoud, winning in its class also. The Reserve male Championship was awarded to Ardgowan Grand March, a two year old son of Ardgowan Ringmaster, exhibited by Mir H. J. Kellilier, while the Reserve in the female section went to a Canadian importation. These five successes by cattle bred by Mr J. G. Donald are a further indication of the outstanding merit of his Ardgowan herd from which at the first annual sale 18 buills and 2*o yearling heifers made the great average respectively of 60 guineas, and 3o guineas, an overhead average for the 38 head of just on 46 guineas.
