DEAR MRS "X"
A STRANGE COINCIDENCE OLD SOLDIERS IN PERTH The slory of a strange coincidence and the determination of three New Zealand soldiers to express tlieir thanks for a kindness done them in Perth, Western Australia, lias reached Paeroa in the columns of a Pe rl h n env spap cr. With a reproduction of a Y.M.C.A "active' service" envelope addressed "To the Ladj' of the House, Nearest the Great War Memorial, In the Park, Perth, West Australia," and a photograph of the three soldiers on horseback in front of the memorial, the newspaper explains the happening thus:— "The story: The three New Zealanders (right) on leave in Perth, were in King's Park, because, as tlicy Raid, they wanted to spend their leave quietly, away from the city's hustle—and temptations. "There they met Mirs A'. C. Cross, whose flat overlooks the park. She gave them some lunch and a drink. "After lunch they thircd three horses, spent the time giving children rides. Among the children was Mrs Cross's daughter. "Then they w r ent, forgot to ask Mrs Cross her name. "Last week the Postal Department delivered the quaintly addressed envelope, fouhd the sketch on it lielf)ful in locating the addressee. "It contained a photograph of the men and the children taken in the park and expressed the hope that there 'will be 1 another bottle on the ice' when they come' back. "And the coincidence: They did not_ know Mrs. Cross's name so they started their letter with 'Dear Mrs X.'"
