Born in Montana, he attended school in England, high school in Helena and college at Grinnel, lowa. Between times he worked on his father's cattle ranch. His ambition was tp be an artist. As a cartoonist he landed in Los Angeles, wiiere, while broke, he w r as accepted for extra work in pictures.
