A HALF-MILE FLUTTER At the Waikato meeting next week wide interest will be taken in the two year old event, the Tamahere Stakes of four furlongs. Smartness in getting away from the barriei will be an important factor in the result of this juvenile sprint, while outside marbles will not conduce to winning chances. Taking track work on a guide there will be plenty of totalisator supporters for Sleepy Fox, Royal Merit, Dash o' Dink, Transcend, Miss Gigi and Plato Lad. THE WELLINGTON CUP In keeping with its progressive policv so evident in recent ytais, the Wellington Racing Club has decided to make the distance for the next Wellington Cup, two miles, and to increase the prize money for the event to £3500, which will be in line with the highest stake in the Dominion that for the Auckland Cup. IMPROVING IN MANNERS The very highly assessed Evei England, now a member of Hector Gray's team at Takanini, is now casing down in his stubborn behaviour tactics. There is no question whatever regarding his abilitA so this season there is at least hope that he will be a payable proposition.

RELATED TO PHAR LAP Enticing, a winner at Rangiora and Banks Peninsula lately, is a three-quarter sister to the great Pliar Lap. She .is owned by Mr F. Armstrong, of Christchurch, who still has the dam, Entreaty. THE WANGANXJI SPRINTER Although he is not competing at the New Zealand Cup meeting, tho Wanganui sprinter, Sir Beau, is to race at Feikling at the end of the month, and is expected to be at tho top of his form on Boxing Day in view of the Auckland Railway Handicap . MILITARY REQUIREMENTS It is understood that the Feilding, Awapuni, Ashliurst and Wo-odville courses will be taken over for military purposes early in the New Yea* NOW A JUMPER The speedy Orate, whose principal fault has hitherto been his erratic behaviour at the starting barrier, is now to be relegated to the ranks of hurdlers and is to contest jumping events at the Wailtato meeting. GOVERNMENT TAXATION From the Auckland Trotting Cluli spring meeting the Treasury received the sum of £10,083 8s Id being Government taxation principally on totalisator turnover. It is worthy of note that just now there is little in the way of any agitation for the curtailment of abandonment of either racing or trotting in the Dominion. THE WAIKATO CUP . The Waikato Cup on November 15 at Te Ha pa will be run over a distance of eleven furlongs, just a furlong longer than many middle distance performers are partial to. j Twenty-three entrants have been handicapped. The assessments have been compiled under a low maximum, with Orclio 9.0, Lou Rosa 8.13 and Round Up 8.7. WEIGHT CARRYING RECORD The weight carrying record in the Melbourne Gup is still held in. the name of Carbine, who in 1900 carried 10.5 and won handsomely in a field of 38. In 1920 Poitral won with 10.0 but the field was much smaller. TRANSFERRED NORTH The Croupier—Hine Ra filly, Play Girl, has been purchased from Mr R. J. Murphy, of Wellington, by Mr P. Nihil!, of Auckland, and will join the Ellcrslic team presided over •'by F. Gilchrist who recently has had victories with the same owner's Cherry's Ticket.
