British locomotive engineers have built a locomotive and tender for the Ulu Remis Estate, Malay Peninsula, which, will be fuelled with palm fibre and coconut shells instead of coal. It has a chimney specially designed to keep sparks I'rem Hying out and setting light to the plantations through which the engine will run. There is alslo an elaborate boiler feeding arrangement made necessary because of water conditions on the estate. In working order the engine weighs ]."j tons and the tender 7% tons, the latter carrying 5Ut) gallons of water and 120 cu. ft. of fuel. The gauge is 700 mm. (2ft 3^2in) and the boiler has a working pressure of !()<!!!> per square inch.
