FURTHER MANOEUVRES

SOME, EQUIPMENT ARRIVING

About 40 members of tlic Tnfanlry were on parade at tlic week-end and were transported to tlie Mokorua Golf Links for manoeuvres. Patrols attacked a defended position the men exhibiting enthusiasm in their work during the two and a half hour session. On Sunday next a full day parade Is to be held at Ohope commencing nt 9 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m. On the following week-end there will be no parade of the I'nfan try. Change From Sunday There is a possibility that the day of parades will be altered for the summer months, with daylight training on the Saturday afternoon of one week, and an evening parade during the alternate week. On a Show of hands a comfortable majority of the men favoured such a change. Iss'ue of Boots That boots are to be issued to local Guardsmen is indicated by the fact that members have been questioned as to the size of their footwear. . Interesting Demonstration - During Sunday afternoon officers and N'.C.O'.'s visited the camp at Ohope where 1 Mr A. Carling gave a demonstration of controlled colleclive rifle fire the Whakatane Company acting as the fire unit. The instruction comprised three demonstrations, the first being concentrated fire, the second distributed lire and the third partial concentration and distributed fire by two units. The cxercises were carried out by a method new to the officers and N.C.O. of both the Whakatane Battalions which were fully represented, a landscape target being used, and sights harmonised so that the bullets recorded on tlic sky screen above. The afternoon proved both very instructive and interesting and as a result the trainees found that with good training controlled rifle lire could be a very effective weapon.
