SOCIAL CREDIT

Sir,—l could not understand the extravagant praise bestowed in your issue of last Friday, on the Social Credit "Glamour Boy," John Hogan, although one must admit his ability to reel off with a patter the usual contradictions, meaningless phrases, economic half-truths and popular misconceptions which form the foundation of the Douglas Social Credit System. (Note: The name, Douglas, has for some mysterious reason been dropped). The manner in which l|ft brought the system to its political conclusion, i.e. Nazi-ism and Fascism, was also a creditable performance, but at this point, I would like to.draw the attention of my very good and well intentioned friends who comprise the Local Social Credit Movement. As I personally know that all three of them are irrevocably opposed to anything in the nature of Naziism, how do they reconcile themselves to the unstinted praise which the irrepressible youth from across the Tasman seemed to disposed to shower on Germany? It must be difficult. And then there was Alberta, where it would appear, that owing to intervention by the Canadian Govern--ment the Social Credit dream of growing pound notes on Mulberry bushes, had not yet been realised. But did this daunt our brave young philosopher? Not on your life! Having failed to discover the spiritual fatherland of social credit in Alberta he very quickly discovers one in Germany. Ah! here was a country! No irksome restrictions (the Jews and democrats etc. having apparently been all shot off), no bankers and bandits to restrict the flow of credits, although why it was found necessary to do a deal with Mr Montague Norman for 50 millions of credits in this Eldorado of Social credit, was a complete mystery to me, but not to Mr Hogan, who was in too much of a hurry to remember (if he ever knew it) that Germany was and is, the most trustified country in the world both in banking and industry; but then he believes in large concentrations of 1 capital and profits, or doesn't he ? Who knows! Some day! never! perhaps! In all humility I venture to< suggest the real facts. German economy was in suich a desperate plight that nothing short of a redivision of the world's markets and raw materials could save the huge trusts and banking corporations of the third. Reich from collapse; hence .the war; hence corporal Hitler; hence Oswald Mosley; hence—But perhaps their "Social Credit" ardor will be cooled in Russia's wintry snows, hacked by the R.A.F. Yours etc., H. C. BROWN, Taneatua.
