HOME GUARD
OFFICERS IN CAMP
WEEK-END INSTRUCTION AT
OHOPE
Twenty-two N.C.O.'s of the Whakatane Home Guard spent from Friday until Sunday evening at the newly equipped camp at Ohope undergoing instruction. Mir A. Carling was in charge of the camp and gave the instruction assisted by three of the N.C.O.'s.
Parades of all units are to be held next week-end as usual.
Overseas Appointment. David Norman Perry, missioncr of Omaio, has been appointed as Y.M.C.A officer to work with the Maori Battalion Overseas. Mr Perry speaks the Maori language and has an intimate knowledge of Maori requirements. He also knows most of the Maoris who left for service from the Coast. Prior to his departure from Opotiki Mir Perry was interviewed by repesentatives of the Opotiki Patriotic Executive in connection with various aspects of the welfare of the Maoris.
