PETROL RATIONING
COUPONS OR LICENSES
FARMERS' UNION VIEIW
At last Executive meeting of the Auckland Farmers' Union an animated discussion took place on a remit suggesting that any reductions in petrol supplies should be made on coupons and not on licenses.
Some members claimed that the rationing scheme was abused to a greater extent where petrol was available by license than where coupons were used. The matter came before the Executive in the form of a Waikato remit condemning the "recent abitrary cutting down of farmers' car petrol licenses, believing anj 7 necessary reduction in petrol consumption should be applied through coupons."
This, with the addition, "especially in eases where public transport is available," was ultimately carried.
