A SOLID PERFORMANCE The V;iais gelding, Clansman, in appearance quite an ordinary customer of the light-fleshed variety, is making good over cross country. He won the Pakuranga Steeplechase last month, and followed up by registering a very fine performance on Monday in winning the Onehunga Steeyjfes. Practically in front for the three miles, he jumped very proficiently throughout. In the latter stages he was challenged by Dauber anil Rival, both horses of a faster calibre, 'and successfully withstood them.
DASHING CAVALIER FOR STUD The Metropolitan Handicap and llandwiek Plate winner, Dashing Cavalier, lias been scratched from all his Melbourne engagements and is to go. to the stud. He Avill return to racing in the autumn, after which lie will be retired permanent]}' to the stud.
CAULDFIELD CUP FIELDS Acceptances for the Caulclfield Cup have been posted as follows: Beau Vite, High Caste, Lucrative, Rimveil, Reading, El Calire, Historian, Sun Valley, Tranquil Star, Saul, Rivette, True Flight, Velocity, Evergreen, England's Glory, Vanalis, Sir Locket, Contact, Rainbar, Carleton, Frill King, Pelcncia, Triggerman, Gilcad, Retmuha. * PLACED HORSES IN EPSOM The result of the A.J.C* Epsom Handicap was a good advertisement for New Zealand. The Avinner,- Rimveil is by Veilmond, who was bred in the Dominion, as also were High Caste and Amiable, who were second and third respectively. SUCCESS FOR NEW OWNER General Ruse has proved a good horse for his new owner, Mr S. Carey, and in his last three starts ha,s registered two Avins. His A'ictory in the Maramarua Steeples at Paeroa Avas the result of physical fitness and the fine generalship of his rider, J. Winder. SURE PAY WINS After haA'ing been raced into form this season Sure Pay ran right up to his best in the Shortsi Handicap at the Auckland meeting, defeating a field of good sprinters. He handled the going A'ery capably, and -Avhen the tracks become firmer lie may win in cA-en better company. MAXOWN MAKES GOOD In three seasons' racing the General La tour gelding MaxoAvn (at one time purchased at a high figure).Avas not a success on the flat, but lately in the hurdling department may be said to have made good. His performance in the Trial Hurdles at Auckland Avas full of merit, as lie defeated a good field of jumpers. GOLD MONEY SONG In the Shorts Handicap at tlnvj Auckland meeting Gold Money Song was to haA r e been riddcfi by G. Smith, who in previous occasions has ridden him to victory. However, the mount was giA r en to> G. G. Goulbro. The nippy sprinter did not get away well, and his chance later Avas not enhanced when he Avas asked to cover too much ground." He Avill see a better day. HER BEST PERFORMANCE By Avinning the Mitchelson Cup, one mile and a half, in 2.37 sees, the Musketoon mare Kilcash, registered her best performance to date. Her brilliant dash from the distance post Avas an eye-opener to those of the onlookers who may not have assessed lier as highly as the stable connections. Her racing condition reflected credit on the trainer, J. W. Cathro, Avho on June 22 last Avon the CornAvall Handicap Avitli The Cardinal. CORATO IMPROVING On Monday Corato, Avinner by Broughton, ran his best race for a considerable time in the Epsom Handicap. He Avas very capably ridden by Broughton. VOLIFOX PREVAILS After running fourth in the Mitchelson Cup on Saturday the To Aroha entrant, Volifox, shoAved improvement by Avinning the Spring Handicap, one mile and a quarter on Monday. She ay as always in the leading division, and aycll ridden by V. Dye. finished on A'ery gamely to Avin with a little in hand from Night Pilot, Avho will probably keep his New Zealand Cup engagement.
