SCOUTS ARE READY
SHOULD EMERGENCY ARISE
COMMISSIONER'S ASSURANCE
"The Boy Scouts of England are showing the "world what they are capable of doing in an emergency," said Commissioner F. N. Christian at the annual meeting of the Bay ol Plenty Association last Tuesday, evening. "I make bold to state that if ever the same emergency arises in New Zealand the scouts here will do their job as well. Their training has fitted them for just such occasions and although we do not wish to anticipate lor one moment that our own country "will suffer in the same way we do nevertheless say with all assurance that the boys are trained in self-reliance and in discipline which will stand them in good stead, if not during the progress of the war, at least in the trials which Avill be presented by the post-war period."
He w r ent on to say that the Home Guard authorities were anxious to make the fullest use of the Scouts. They wanted to utilise the boys to the utmost. Scouts however were being primarily trained for the future and what ever work they would be called upon to do in connection tvith the Home Guard would be the concern of headquarters.
