DANGER TO MOTORISTS
PARKING IN KING. STREET
CONGESTION IN DOMAIN ROAD
Introduced by Cr J. G. Mulholland the parking problem in King Street and Domain Road was briefly discussed at Monday's meeting of the Borough Council, Cr Mulholland stating that the practice of parking on both sides of the road near the. hall in King Street and the doctors' surgeries in Domain Road presented a menace to other motorists.
The speaker added that with stationary cars so arranged very little room was available for other traffic and he suggested that parking should be allowed only on one side of the streets in question.
That this problem had confronted -the Council on many occasions was pointed out by Cr S. S. Shapley. •the position at the King Street Hall "having been particularly serious., He added that if James Street was used for parking then more lights would have to be installed, while if parking was permitted on one side of the road only then the line of cars would be extremely long owing to so many rights-of-way being established.
Cr T. Cummings suggested that Lovelock Street might provide a solution and it was decided that the Works Committee investigate possibilities.
"The problem is a serious one of
long standing," commented His Worship, "and the committee now has •something which will exercise its ■Ingenuity."
