"BE PREPARED"
WHAKATANE SCOUT GROUP
The committee and officers of the Scout Group are steadily keeping in mind the Scout motto "Be Prepared." We arc fortunate in procuring the services of interested men to coach the boys in the various sectcions of Scout craft.
At tlie moment particular attention is being given to signalling, map reading and first aid. Already one group of boys have qualified in First Aid. Scouts are never meant to be a name only but a group of trained boys who will acquit themselves with credit if the necessity arises. Cub Notes The Wolf Cub Pack under the capable leadership of Miss Blythe now number 31 boys. During the last Aveek six neAV boys have joined us and two lia\ r e left our ranks. One being the senior sixer Don HoAvat. A few weeks ago 20 members of the Pack spent an enjoyable Saturday up the gorge.
Two boys laid a trail to the foot of the hills, which Avas followed by the rest of the pack in true scouting style. After collecting pine-cones for the fire the pack made their way to the gorge Avhcre the boys cooked their own lunch of sausages, potatoes and cocoa. In the near future it is hoped to haA-e another trip to the Heads.
