WAKE UP WHAKATANE
WE have learned that Whakatane Company of the Home Guard is considerably below strength. The new position is one which reflects drastically upon the eligible manhood of the town and demands that immediate measpres should be taken to effect a remedy. More recruits are needed to build up to the required standard. It is lit'tle enough to ask in view of the immense amount of individual work which is being done by others in order to consolidate the movement. Whakatane is a vital centre and all who realise this fact will be willing to pull their weight and assist forwards a complete strength of the local unit. It is somewhat distasteful to reflect that the town with its greater percentage of leisured residents compares most unfavourably with the keen work which is being carried out in the country centres. Recruiting is proceeding all the. time and those who desire to enroll are reminded that the Headquarters Orderly Room, the Stand, will always be open, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
