REDUCTION IN POSTAL RATES
WEIGHT LIMIT TO UNITED
KINGDOM
Reduced postage rales on Christmas parcels for soldiers in the Middle East, Great Britain, Canada and elsewhere' posted between now and the end of October were anounced by the Postmaster-General, the Hon. P. C. Webb, in answer to an urgent question by Mr A. S. Richards (Government—Roskill) in the House of Representatives. Mr Webb said the following postage rates would apply this month for parcels: Not exceeding 31b, Is; parcels between 31b and 111b, 2s.
"The effcct of the concession is that parcels; weighing between 71b and 111b will for the rest of this month be accepted at the reduced rate of 2s instead of the normal rate of 45," said Mr Webb. "Although the concession is to operate until th~ end of this month, in view of the difficulty in obtaining shipping space, those who wish to ensure that their parcels will reach the soldiers ?n time for Christmas would be well advised to post them not later than October 15."
The Postmaster-General also announced that with the concurrence of the British authorities New Zealanders may post to civilians in the United Kingdom cake and fruit puddings to the full weight limit of 511) in any gift parcel. The usual limit is 21b. The concession lapses after October 31.
