HOME GUARD
CHANGE OF AREA COMMANDER
FIELD EXERCISES AT WEEK-END
The local Home Guard paraded at the Domain on Sunday where revision work was undertaken before the men left for open country to indulge in field exercises.
At Thornton there was a good muster and the Area Commander, Mr G. R. Wilson, was present to announce that he would no longer be occupying the position which would be assumed by M'r lan B. Gow, Mr V. Carter, of Thornton, becoming second in command. In making his announcement Mr Wilson appealed to the men to maintain and increase enthusiasm as the need for a Guard was made increasingly evident each day, in particular as a result of the tension in the Far East.
